Everything You Need for August

"Summer of Self-Care"

Begone, humidity! Here’s how to have fun despite the thickness of summer’s heat.

It is officially summer. We’re in the thick of it. There’s no hiding from the heat, the sweat, and the constant hum of air conditioners. Some of my friends are in nonstop vacation mode and I’m hanging out with a wild case of fomo (but there’s a cure for that, as you’ll see below). Each month, I like to put together a few of my must haves.

Here’s what’s on deck for August:

Mega Babe Thigh Rescue Truly cannot save enough about this life saving product, which goes where no anti chafe stick has ever gone before and actually works. Created by Kate Sturino (also known on Instagram for the hashtag #supersize the look), she is a fierce force for body positivity we all desperately need. And her products will save us all.

What I Was Doing While You Were Breeding This memoir by TV writer Kristin Newman had me cracking up on a beach in Mexico when I traveled alone one year. It chronicles her solo travels and choices to adventure instead of procreate. Whether you’re a parent or not, you’ll appreciate her wit and humor. Plus, it feeds your travel fomo if you can’t get away and you’re stuck obsessing over friends’ Instagram stories in Greece.

Girls’ Night In This newsletter hits my inbox every Friday morning and seriously gets me. It’s all about women who just need a night in sometimes. It is truly self care 101 and makes me feel good about wanting to just crash on a Friday (or Saturday or a Sunday, you get the picture).

Moulin Rouge on Broadway If I’m lucky enough to snag a ticket to this show, I will be exorbitantly happy. It is full of popular music, over-the-top dancing, costumes galore and, did I mention the wild makeup? The New York Times says the show is a “party and a playlist for the ages.” Sign me up!

Succession on HBO Season 2 of this financial family drama hits HBO on August 11 and I am here for it. Kieran Culkin is one of my faves as the little rich kid, but it’s Australian actress Sarah Snook who plays a New York City heiress and knows rock a pantsuit like the girl boss we all want to be.

Balloon Spray from R&Co I fell deeply in love with Mandy Moore’s hair stylist Ashley Streicher after a deep Instagram hole (err, stalk) and learned about R&Co, a vegan, cruelty free, and paraben-free hair brand. The newly launched balloon spray has changed my life for the better when summer humidity weighs it down. A few spritzes of this magic is like pixie dust for my tresses.

Nothing says summer more to me than a quick flight to Miami and a stunning drive over the Seven Mile Bridge to the Florida Keys for the Key West Lobster Fest. From August 8 to 11, celebrate the start of lobster season with poo parties, lobster boils and more. Hopefully I’ll see you there!

Claim to Frame When it’s 90 plus degrees outside and every pore on my face is open for all makeup to seep into, the last thing I want to do is put anything but sunscreen on my face. But a girl wants to look a little bit put together, you know what I mean? That’s when I reach for our incredible new Claim to Frame Brow Pencil, which has tiny hair-like strokes that fill in any gaps in my brows and make them look full and fabulous. It makes me feel like I have some makeup on even when I really have no makeup on. And, on those sweaty nights when I’ll strictly be in AC only, it also helps my full face of makeup go super glam. I love it and can’t wait for you all to try it.
