15 Generational Beauty Tricks to Keep Top of Mind

We polled our Beauty Guides in the field to see what they had to say about the beauty tips, tricks, and advice they got from generations before them.

When I think of growing up with my mom, I can’t help but think of her beauty routine. Or the many parts of her beauty routine for that matter. She’d rush around the house in her clipped in electric curlers that she always used in my hair before a skating competition, the funny face she made (and still makes) when she applied her mascara from the pink and green bottle, and the smell of her night cream when she kissed me goodnight every night. Things that were menial parts of her daily routine still stick with me today and shaped the way I view the importance of self care. The way she went about her beauty routine taught me that self care is not vanity, it is a way of practicing self love. Despite her busy schedule she always found time to apply a little makeup even if she did it in the car. She is definitely where my ability to multitask came from!

And let’s face it, I wouldn’t be the woman I am today without her help or her to look up to. Moms and mother figures in our lives shape who we are and stay with us forever. We polled our Beauty Guides in the field to see what they had to say about the beauty tips, tricks, and advice they got from generations before them. Here they are:

  1. “Take care of your skin and be grateful for the story of your life that it tells.”

  2. “Never sleep in your makeup!”

  3. “Wear sunscreen rain or shine!”

  4. “Always shimmy your lashes with the brush.”

  5. “The point of makeup is to enhance the beauty that is already there.”

  6. “Wear makeup, don’t let makeup wear you.”

  7. “Wash your face morning and night!  Always!”

  8. “Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.”

  9. “Cold spoons help reduce dark eye circles and swelling before applying makeup.”

  10. “My grandmother used to say, “Pretty is as pretty does.” She taught me that true beauty shines through attitude and actions.”

  11. “My mother taught me that applying concealer under my lipstick will make it last longer.”

  12. “Less is more when it comes to makeup.”

  13. “Love your natural brow.”

  14. “A healthy diet is the foundation for healthy skin.”

  15. “Sometimes all you need to conquer your day, is a beautiful, bold lip color!”

  1. Take care of ur skin starting from a young age I wish I didn’t wait to I was older and always use a good moisturizer

  2. I once saw a card that held some very wise advice: Take good care of your neck – it may someday be needed on your face.

  3. Don’t forget your hands. Put lotion on every time they get wet and wash your hands often.
